Short-tailed python eggs...

Rich_Crowley May 04, 2005 01:09 PM

Those of you who have bred and successfully hatched eggs from p. breitensteini, brongersmai, curtus have you noticed the eggs to require much greater humidty than other python eggs? Or rather that they appear to partially collapse and be less full than other eggs?

Rich,
Of the few brongersmai eggs I've hatched I would say that they might be collapsing slightly more than other python eggs that I have incubated. However I usually keep the humidity pretty high for all python eggs I chose to incubate. For the curtus group, and when considering their typical habitat, I would seriously doubt if the humidity could be too high. For their eggs I feel the closer to 100% RH the better.

I have had some clutches of eggs dent in pretty good, but I find that it happens more at the end of the incubation period. I have had some eggs dent in early in the game and I just added a little water to the outer edge of the incubating tub. Looking at that little baby head sticking out of his egg, looks like you are doing great either way! Here is part of a clutch that should hatch out in the next five days. Can't wait to see more pictures of your babies! Love em all... jody

I have hatched out a few clutches and I incubate them at about 95% - 100% hummidity, according to my gauge. All my eggs look like they are going to pop prior to hatching. When I slit them it is amazing how much pressure they hold. I have some great pics but can't figure, or havn't spent the time trying to understand how to post pics. After a couple of years of looking at this site, I just now got thru the registration steps. Not a big fan of these little computers. If you have an email address I will email some pretty cool egg pics.
