EMERGENCY....NEED HELP!!!

DixieDiana May 04, 2005 01:31 PM

Wallace has a cage with sliding glass doors. I gave him some food a little while ago and I went back to check on him. When I did, he had gotten inbetween the glass doors so that it looks likes he is pressed between two pieces of glass. The space where the two glass doors overlap is very small, I don't know how in the world he managed to get in between the glass.
I tried to slide the door slightly so I could get him out. The door was sliding without problem then all of a sudden Wallace swelled himself up and now nothing will budge. He is totally stuck between the glass.
PLEASE....IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET HIM OUT!!

Can't you lift up on the front peice of glass and remove it?

DixieDiana May 04, 2005 01:47 PM

No, the glass is in permanent tracks.

Whew....my hubby finally got the glass to move just enough to get him out.

Now I don't know what to do as far as a cage. I spent a lot on this cage and now I am afraid to put him in it until he gets bigger so maybe he can't get in between the glass again.

Look into a weather stripping or soft foam. Not a spray foam, just something you could stick to the glass to close the gap. Go over to the cage forum and explain the whole thing, somebody will have a solution so you don't have to get rid of or ruin the cage.

Thanks Bryan! Good Idea....I will see what I can find.

I would fear him trying to get his head into an area of tight glass...that could do some damage to his head. Make sure you find the solution to that problem before putting him back in there. Glad you got him out!

Good luck,

John E.

Yeah, you should be able to lift it slightly and slip the bottom out. If it wasn't built like that look to see how the tracks the glass doors slide in were put in. You might be able to cut the silicone or remove a few screws and take the tracks out.

There doesn't appear to be a way to remove the glass...short of breaking it. Apparently, the glass was put in place before the top rim of the cage was added. Making it impossible to remove the glasses. There are no screws or anything else to loosen.

I've never encountered a cage with sliding glass doors where the glass wasn't removeable. All of the sliders that I have, which is many, allow for the sliding doors to be removed for cleaning and safe transport.
