My adult Female Crested Stopped Eating? Please Help!

palex134 May 04, 2005 04:14 PM

I have had this girl since Jan. She is an awesome 34 grams and I was hoping to breed her, but she stopped eating crickets. She used to eat 3 every feeding, but now she wont. She just sits there and watches them. She hasnt eaten a cricket in about a week. Her day temps are around 75 and she was doing so well until now. Please help!

are you feeding during the day? or leaving the crickets in over night? does she eat other foods? if you dont see her eating liquid foods, you can usually coerce them into eating some off of your finger untill they are full. try leaving crickets in there overnight, or leave some food in the cage for the crickets, and leave them in so she eats when ready. i usually put potatoes, broccoli, or carrots in the cage for the crickets to eat and leave them in untill all gone.

If she starts becoming listfull, and shows no interest in food, and loses weight dramatically, its time to consider a parasite infection.
i know that Randy May at neoscales has done alot of research on this, and has posted some good information.

here is the link to some info published on thier website

I feed during the night. She will look interested in them and then end up walking right past them. She hasnt had a drastic weight loss. I am feeding her CGD mixed with baby food every night to keep her weight up. She used to be such a good eater.

hi. there could be many factors why your gecko is not eating. the humidity may be too high or too low which can throw them off. the temp could be too high, make sure it doesn't go above 80. there is something that is called flaygai ( sp?) that is an amebia in the cresteds stomach that cause them to stop eating. if she is losing weight, i would be concerned. if she continues to eat the babyfood, i wouldn't be to worried. theres something called hyrolife that replaces the electrolites in the gecko. it also gets them back eating. is she still eating anything at all?

She has never been a gecko to eat out of a dish. I am feeding her CGD and baby food off my fingers for now. I hope she goes back on crickets. They just sit there in her cage. He temps are about 75 a bit on the low side.

try just CGD and as long as she isn't losing weight i wouldn't worry to much

nobody has asked what kinda substrate ur crestie is on.....have you thought about impaction?

also.....have you thought about, when leaving the (uneaten)crickets in there for a day or so.....could/will stress them out as well.
