I use slightly warmer water usually, but I've used room temp before without a problem. Cute little dragon...must not have been at the pet store too long...looks fat! Which store was it, if I may ask?

I was at Petco on Monday...after 20 minutes of watching the little ones I was hooked on this one...he came running right over to the glass, tried eating a finger even through the glass...they said they just got them in...I went back Teusday to pick him up...I don't even have any idea of the age...they were no help at all, other than at taking my money...lol...I'm just worried 'cause it's only my second beardie, the first I got for x-mas...and the little one is so tiny...my other was allready seven inches when he arrived...

Ugh....I HATE Deathco! But, I won't go into that. They wouldn't really know the age...they buy lots from mass breeders, no paperwork. I can't tell from the pic...how big is he? It's hard not to worry, but the only thing you can do is do the best you can. He's already eating, right? That's definitely a good thing...temps ok?

I'd say from nose to tail tip he's no more than five inches...he's eating and more than I thought he would, so I have to pick up crix tomorrow until my order comes in...he's drank some water, temps are right by temp gun...he doesn't seem stressed, moves around and seems very curious...he's small enough to easily fit on my finger and I'm petite...there is a quarter in the pic near him for comparison...

He is awfully tiny, they dont come out of the egg much smaller than that!

No one is going to hate you for getting a little beardie. They are cute and pretty irresistable at that age. Just be prepared that they are much more sensitive and less hardy than the older ones. Since it came from Petco i would have a fecal done as soon as you see poopy. I would try to avoid holding it until he has settled in and the fecal has come back clean.

They do eat a lot at that age, its probably a good idea to set up a crix tank if you dont have one already because then you will not only have a steady supply but also healthy gut-loaded buggies which are much better for your little guy.

Good luck!

i must be slow because i see now pic.... anyways i was at a local petshop and they have baby beardies there. these things were TINY. From the size i read you guys talking about its probably the same. One of them wasn't looking so good. he was propped up in the corner, really skinny and definately not lively looking, eyes were wide open though....

The other in the tank was sitting in the basking area and looked pretty good.

Their cage was a mess. I wanted to smack someone. They had a tupperware lid with greens on it siting under the basking lamp. how smart, of course they were all shriveled up. There had to have been 10 crickets in there running around and they looked pretty big to me. Do you feed this size beardies pinheads?

yellowfox May 05, 2005 07:22 AM

oh i seen the pic in another thread, hes about the same exact size as the ones i mentioned

denise1 May 05, 2005 12:45 PM

yep, very tiny...I've seen pics of babies but of course didn't realize they were that tiny since it's hard to tell from pics...he'll at least get plenty to eat...all that he needs to thrive...and definately spoiled just like my other beardie...

denise1 May 05, 2005 12:39 PM

the one I brought home is very lively, watches everything and very rarely seems startled by anything...he's eating good, even got him to eat some greens fed by hand...the crickets I'm feeding him are about 1/8" inch which if you look at a ruler are very small...I know from having a five month old that size is important, no food that won't fit between the eyes...

I meant don't hate me for asking so many questions, I figure he's better off with me having some experience and willing to do what it takes to have him thrive than at a pet store where they don't care and don't know much if anything...the one girl asked if they bite...unbelievable

I think it's great to know as much as possible...and if you don't know, ask. I just wish everybody would do that! I'm always lurking in this forum, so if I see any questions, I'll answer and so will everybody else. It sounds like you take really good care of your beardies and I wish you all the success in the world with your new little guy. I'm just glad he found his way to you...who knows where he could've ended up. Take care.

I'm glad he is doing so well...I had to tape some paper over part of his tank...he would sit at the very top of his branch whith his little front legs on the glass watching everything so his belly wasn't in contact with the branch...he's allready stopped doing that now...
