Not All Snakes Use Lay Boxes

Snakericks May 04, 2005 05:40 PM

This 5yr old double het axanthic X lavender albino South Florida King layed a total of 16 eggs (15 good) under her lay box on 5/3/05.

Nice clutch... how big is that snake (well her length?) and how long is the enclosure she's in(LxW)?

***I'm trying to figure out what is the best length to build my new enclosure to house my breeder females.

The snake is close to 48", the boxes are 17" X 24". I'll be adding some 36" boxes this year. Since you're now constructing yours, I suggest you go bigger than 17 x24 if you can.

Ok thanx... i have an eight level enclosure that's 32" long x 17" wide do you think that is sufficient space for an adult female?

Lastly I've heard that Brooksi hit 6 feet is it possible for a brook's to grow to 6' in an enclosure that isn't close to 6' in length?

Thanx in advance

I would say 32" X 17" is sufficient. As for a 6' Brooksi, I've never seen one. I saw one close to 6' in Orlando some years ago. My largest ever was 64". A 6' Brooksi could be possible, but I think that would be a rareity.

Tim, when and if my hypo female lays this year, I could take a pic exactly like that one! She never uses the box. Always between it and the cage wall or under the box completely.
I always worry I'll miss them.

Yes indeed Mark, They keep us looking every day, 2 and 3 times a day, and even more. Good luck to you and keeeeep looking.

I gave up on using lay-boxes years ago for this reason.

I just dump a glass of water into the shavings about the time they are due for laying.

Works for me.
