New Leopard Tortoise-need advice

jeanette74 May 04, 2005 06:44 PM

Hi
I have a leopard tortoise -he/she is about 4 months old now-It comes out of its little hut once a dy to eat-Is this normal-should I be bathing him and how many times a week. I posted on the leopard tortoise forum-this site seemed a little more updated. Any advice on caring for this litle guy is greatly appreciated-theres alot of contradicting literature out there-Id rather get info from people with experience-Thanks and any advice is appreciated!!

I love the leopards they are great torts. I have 5 of my own. Leopards do tend to hide alot only coming out to eat is normal. I soak my young ones about once a week. and once they are roughly about a year old I only soak them if they look like they need it which is roughly bout once every month or 2. Good luck with him/her

I agree with the above post with one exception. For very young torts you should soak them at least every other day in lukewarm water. Once they break maybe the 4" or so mark then twice a week will probably suffice. Soakings and humidity are essential for young torts, even leopards that are typically thought of as less humidity dependent than say a redfoot....

Just my 2 cents
