collapsing eggs

twee May 04, 2005 07:00 PM

My leo laid a pair of beautiful, white eggs exactly fourteen days ago. However, this morning, I found the larger of the two starting to collapse. I I found the humidity had dropped from 78% to about 40% overnight. I added more water to the vermiculite with a funnel to avoud hitting the eggs, and dampened the top of the vermiculite near the eggs with an eyedropper. I used warm water, which was temperature-checked so it was only two degrees above their incubation temperature so I did not cause too much of a temp variation. Still, I got home from school and checked on them, only to find the collapsed one had got no better, and the other one seems to be darkening and getting a bit darker. I may even be seeing mold on it. They are still in the incubator, and I am in urgent need of help! I can see eggs in my female again, but I was so happy they had lasted this long. These are her first eggs, are they just infertile? Is there anything I can do to try to save them?

Humidity definitely... infertility most probably.

Follow Albey's ("Too Cool..." instructions to set up the right humidity. You'll need a scale and perlite...
