Finally left the newspaper behind

PAsnake May 04, 2005 07:39 PM

Well i finally did it, I started out with paper towels then moved on to newspaper. Today I gave Kula a new substrate and some fake fauna. He/she seems to like it as i left for a few hours and it looks like there are quite a few trails in the aspen. I also watched as Kula slithered all around the leaves. You can kind of see Kula peeking out of the right hide.

The shop i bought the stuff at just got some new snakes in. They have an orange creamsicle corn, Piebalin Milk and an albino Rat snake all at $49.95 each. If the corn was a yearling as Kula was when i got him i would have gotten it. Beautiful markings and nice bright orange color, it is probably less than a month old tiny with a pinky in it's tummy.

i notice you have looks like a blanket and something solid over part of the top of the tank, is that to help contain heat?

Yes it is to help keep the heat in the warm end it covers about 40% and the towel goes approx 4 inches back from the front edge. The solid object is a plastic like coated piece of particle board (part of an old computer desk. As well as a beach towel i use to cover the front at night as it is in my bedroom to provide more darkness if i have the tv on or a reading lamp. Here in Pennsylvania we are still kind of chilly, last summer i did away with the towel and used a lighter piece of dark fabric for cover and used a smaller board which covers about 25% of the screen.
