food!

rowad Jul 11, 2003 02:23 PM

I just watched my male eat 2 chicks (one was supposed to be for the female) and I can't believe it! I didn't thnk he could fit that into his tummy.
Being her food was gone, I fed the female day old quail and she ate them like M & M's, right out of my hand (I know what your thinking...the hemostat scared the crap out of her...she's the one who was hunted down and broke her tail...).
I just placed another order at rodentpro for more chicks and larger ones...along with large quail (adults) and get this: frozen guinea pigs.
Has anyone else tried this?

thanks

Reading the forum and talking to a few tegu owners, I find the choices of food that owners feed them to be interesting and quite varied. Do you always feed rodents, chicks, etc? Do you feed them anything else? How do they get their vitamins? How often to they eat these frozen items? I really enjoy everyone's opinions and choices, keeps this forum interesting.

My tegus eat all frozen foods right now. They will not eat canned food anymore. They will eat ground turkey only if forced...and rodents rarely. I'm hoping the guinea pigs give more of a varied diet and hopefully will spark their taste for rodents.

It's funny you should mention it. My little red (svl about 7 inches) is a little pig. I too ordered from Rodentpro and got the peach fuzzie mice for him and pinkie rats for my blue/red cross. I've been taking them out in the afternoons to bask and had three mice and two rat pinkies thawed. Little bit was just like a little speedster pig. No matter how I tried to feed them the right rodent the little one either got it or took it away from the bigger one. He ATE THREE FUZZY MICE AND TWO PINKIE RATS. He looked like he was about to explode. Ya gotta love these tegus.
