Simply put yes. It has to be pure calcium which can be obtained by using a cuttle fish or some call it cuttle bone. Simply scrape the soft side of it into a sealed container for later use. I recently found out that brand name calcium supplements such as nutrobal should not be used for dusting 3-4 times a week but only used once a week. And keep a small dish of pure calcium in with your leo at all times so they can decide how much to intake etc. Hope this helps some. Check out my site for more info.

by cuttle bone, do you mean the same type you get for birds?

YES! You need a dish of calcium in with the leo at all times. You can use miner-all without vit d3 for the dish and then make sure you dust the meallies/crickets with some calcium that does have vit d3 in it about once a week.

I disagree. You do not need a calcium bowl if you provide your leos with a few drops of liquid calcium in their water bowl. Your vet or local pharmacy can sell you Neocalglucon, used with birds & lizards, even humans.

Another alternative is to give them each a drop of Neocalglucon, twice a day. Now if you are a breeder of multiple animals you'll probably find it easier to place at least a teaspoon of it in the drinking water.

I give them liquid calcium AND sprinkle Nekton's "Nekton-Rep" vitamins. Nobody beats Nekton's products and supplements, the top for avians and reptiles.

They DO need calcium badly though!
