I guess I'll chime in. When I got my first Rhino I was about as inexperienced as they come. I'd been doing rescue with Green Iguanas for about a year and had always admired the Cyclura Iguanas. When the opportunity came along to purchase a young female at an incredibly low price (considering this was 4 years ago) I was thrilled. Now I'm keeping 7 Cyclura: 3 Rhinos, 2 Cubans, and 2 lewisi hybrids.
Do a lot of research on Green Iguana husbandry. If you feel that you could keep a Green adequately then you could keep a Rhino. They are hardy animals, and forgiving of minor mistakes. Just keep in mind that as an adult this lizard will require a LOT of space. A room sized enclosure is the minimum that will suffice.
If you would like more specifics, after you do some research on your own, feel free to contact me offlist. There are more experienced keepers than myself that post here but I'm proud of the job I've done with my Cyclura.
Might want to emphisis the long living commitment. Your cyclura always appear very healthy. I can only now appreciate the level work owning them indoors year round requires. Keep up the good work !
Look at David Blair's artilcle on Cyclura.com He is the only breeder who offers a care sheet. If you read his article, you have read his care sheet and that is pretty much what I have used. I have used 100 gallons the first year, 2x2x6 the second, and 10ft x 10ft as soon as they won't squeeze through the 2"x3" screen in Southern California. In the North East it's alot more work as they must live indoors 8-10 months of the year. It's a big commitmant.
