captive bred

zakbag_darlde666 May 05, 2005 08:43 PM

In the jackass state of Georgia which I live in almost every reptile is outlawed as a pet. They say its because they are dangerous but I dont know of many reptiles that are more dangerous than a pit bull or rotweiler. The laws tend to only mention the acquisition of wild animals as being illegal however. Does anyone know what Georgia's laws say about captive bred reptiles? Any information and/or links to websites mentioning this would be greatly appreciated.

I have a friend in Ga, and I know for a fact that native non-venomous snakes are illegal to possess, cb or not....Even if you acquired them from out of state and have documentation up the whazoo, you still have to get rid of them to stay legal.

If I were to move to Ga, I'd have to dump my northern pines, even though they've never even seen Georgia and are completely 100% cb....Even if I've had them since 2003, it doesn't matter.

If, on the other hand I want native snakes, I can always go out and collect every copperhead, water moccasin, timber rattlesnake, pigmy rattlesnake or eastern diamondback I see and be completely legal....kinda bass-ackwards....

I think Ga has to be the ONLY state where they'd rather you kept a timber rattlesnake instead of a corn snake....
