I just moved with my GTP from Florida to Oklahoma not to long ago. During the move she dried out more then normal (all her little wrinkles were gone that she gets when she is well moist).

Then right after we got settled in again she shed.... but it wasn't her normal shead half came off right the other half was still stuck on so I gave her a bath to get most of the rest off. The shed looked totally smooth other then it was in two halves. This was on April 20th.

Tonight when I went to feed her she has another shed going on. She is still a baby growing but I think its a bit fast. This shed is really peely looking, I'm hoping she gets it off by morning but I have doubts.

I originally thought resetting up her automatic mister (I upped the times from once a day on it to four times a day, she coils in front of it so it gets her every time) and misting her once, my self really good to make sure she gets a drink and is all wet, a day would be ok like it was down in florida.... It doesn't seem to be working that way. I've also put her on a once a week soak (she has wrinkled back up again, not like overly wrinkly just like normal wrinkle here and there when she winds up) in a large covered tubber ware dish that has wet paper towels in it and usually put one over her to encorage her to move around in it (I mix ESU shed ease in with the water before I wet down the paper towels in it). The last time I did that was two days ago. Should I do it again in the mean time to try to get it off, I don't want to over soak her and cause more skin problems then she already has.

I've set up a humidifier until tomorrow morning when I can try to find a vet and get the first time they have open. I'm really worried about the eye caps but I'm sure they came off last time. Are there any good reptile vet finder sites? Or does any one know of a good reptile vet in NW Oklahoma? Any suggestions on anything else to do in the mean time? Any one else had a simular problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

hey neighbor... i live in kansas about 2-3 hours from you... i think the problem you are having it the different climate... it is a little harder to keep humidity here in the midwest... when i was housing my GTP's at my house i put a thin rubber strip around the door that they were behind... this kept in the temp and humidity...
as for the wrinkled skin....... all my GTP;s do that right before they shed... and than right after they shed thay are nice and plump again...

and as for your sheding problem... a bad shed can be cause my several things... bad combination of heat and humidity... i keep my cages at about 83 and my humidity at 60-70... and i have found that it helps...
and with the sheding alot...... that in my opinion is ok... snakes will only shed if that are growing... so if she/he is sheding alot its probably because its growing... maybe its having a growth spurt or maybe changing elevation made a difference... either way i think you should be fine...

Thanks Shiloh. Do you raise them up there? I'm probably about two hours away everything seems to be two hours away. I'm down on Vance. I'm going to do the seal thing tonight to her cage this cloud I have going on in the house is just strange.

I went ahead and took her in to the vet since I needed to find one here and figured this would be a good opurtunity to see if I liked the vet... Well I didn't. He told me to change my cypress mulch to either newspaper or paper towels, I'm fine with that (although I didn't like that he said that no one that raises snakes or has them would ever use it, I only use it cause the complete condro said it was ok and I've had other snakes on reptile bark or simular products with no problems). Since she hasn't had a bowel movment since she has been dried out (about three weeks) he told me to give her an oil soup mix, still fine with that although I would rather just put it in the stomach of a dead mouse and give it to her that way (less stressful), he wanted to do a fecal exam and well... I don't keep her bowel movements I scoop them up and throw them out. Here is what bothered me he told me to start handeling her as much as possiable every day. She is five months old so I told him what I've been told and read that it could dislocate their neck etc. He said he didn't nessaccarily believe that would happen and she would be ok being handled that much. I hate having to handle her once a week for a bath because of how small she is and the stress, and I use tongs then. I understand that he doesn't want to be bit by her (I didn't let him handle her though), but isn't that a bit excessive? I would rather drive a few hours now to Tulsa, Oklahoma city, or even Wichita at this point. Supposidly he is the only vet around here that will even handle any type of reptile. Am I over reacting?
