Lost Anole

chappylestrange Jul 11, 2003 03:46 PM

Hi. I don't think I've posted here before, but I have a bit of a problem. I was removing the decor to clean Louis'(my green anole) cage and somehow he escaped. I saw him on a leaf, and could've sworn he jumped down onto the bottom of his tank. So I removed the plants for cleaning. Well...he must have still been on it because he's not in the cage anywhere. So he must have jumped off the plant while I had it out and I have no idea where he went! I have another problem...Mow. My 30 pound tuxedo cat! I live in a very old house with lots of crevices he could've gotten into. Can anyone with previous experience in this matter give me tips, if any, on trying to "flush" him out? Thanks in advance.

Heh.. a common problem. First start by holding that cat upside down and shaking it really hard... lol. check the curtains and any place high remember anoles can climb most surfaces including glass. My knight anoles climb up my glass shower doors its impressive. Check all the high places and then check inside the windows they will sit in the sills and try to get out through the glass.. They are not to bright, but bright enough to avoid the cat i hope.. Check high places.. curtains windows.. fridges and the behind the cage and check the light fixture... they will suprise you. Good luck and take your time

Lock the cat in the garage

I lost my anole Geo twice when she was a sub-adult. The first time she jumped off my hand and under the furnature and she was gone for two days until one day a visitor was walking buy and skared her out from under my bed. The second time see jumped off my hand 1 second before she was in the tank. She fell behind the stand and I couldn't find her for three days until I spotted her behind a trunk. My other anole, rocky, got out of the cage threw a hole I had accidentally made in the corner of the cage cover, and a day later, he showed up right next to the tank? They were all going to places they thought would be the most humid. Darker areas are what sparked there interest, along with places that they knew they could find water. Try putting some water in a shallow tray and put an air stone in it. Also try to put some crickets in a clear container that is close to the water, so he does there to drink and to feed.

Thanks for the suggestions. My cat actually did end up finding him but she is way too fat to catch him....lol. I found her trying to chase him across the living room. So I caught him. He ate a few crickets, drank, and then started to bask. He's looking better already. Thanks again!
