Herping in NY

hi im going on vacation all the way up to the adirondack mountains in long lake, ny, and I was wondering if anyone has herped in this area and can give me some pointers (im new to herping)and tell me what to look for. thanks for any replies

Camped in a remote spot by canoe last year in one of the large lakes up there (forgot the name). I didnt see anything but a few newts in the shallows. Not one turtle or frog in sight, for the water in cove I was located at was pretty frigid, even for July. I would imagine your best bets would be black rats or milks.

Also, look for the maritime garter snakes. They're a pretty cool variation of the Eastern, and I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of those. TC.
