Pictures of Burms and new cage

tegu2002 May 06, 2005 01:54 PM

Hi, I just finished making a new cage for my burmese pythons. It's 10ft by 6ft by 2ft. Should that be big enough. Its so cool. Heres some pictures of the cage and the burms in their water bowl. At the moment there are 4 burms in it and an adult carpet python until the burms get bigger anyway. Enjoy and tell me what you think:

And here are a couple of pictures of the baby who is chilling with the ball python until he can join the big boys:

Tell me what you think.

OMG! Those guys look so cool. I'm amazed at how calm and relaxed your snakes are when they are in the tub. My Burm completely HATES the water even when it's at a warm tempurature. You wouldn't happen to have any tips with how i could have my Burm enjoy the tub more? My snake's last couple sheds were a complete mess, and i'm figuring that soaking would be benefitial. Also, what would be the recommended soaking time? Another user responed to one of my quesions and said that you shoud only use distilled water since tap is drying for the snakes. Do you also just use tap?

I just use tap water for my burms, I don't have any tips, just make sure he has a big water bowls for himself to go in and then he should go in when he wants to. Thats what mine do. They always have except when they were really young. Thanks for your comments.

Its great that you have the ingenuity to make your own cage. For the amount of animals you have in that one cage, it is FAR TOO SMALL (even in a cage that may seem very big). Personally, keeping more than one burm in the same snake cage is a recipe for disaster; and, then compounding it by having a carpet python could just put a huge stress load on these animals who may compete for optimal basking areas and soaking areas (and hide areas). It would behoove you to consider keeping just one snake and give it the best care possible (my vote is for the carpet who would love to have that entire cage to itself). A cage of that size will be fine for a short while (for the burms) but to keep a large adult burm, you would be MUCH better off having a cage with more floor space and less vertical space (which won't be utilized by an adult burm). The temps on the floor could prove to be difficult to maintain properly with so much vertical space. I know you weren't looking for a critique and it is not meant to be negative; you just need some good advice on how to give your animals the best in care.

I'm confused...is this enclosure 10ft long, 6ft high, and 2ft deep?
Or 10ft long, 2ft high, and 6 ft deep?

All you have to do is look at the pic; it's only 2' wide.

its 2 ft deep u mean

burmaboy May 07, 2005 11:19 PM

Thats what I thought I saw. But I was'nt sure.Enclosure would be better off laid on the back, for nearly perfect dimensions.
Two feet wide should hold a burm for almost, but not quite a year.

burmaboy May 07, 2005 11:21 PM

And do we feed all of these snakes in the enclosure, or out of it?

jakethesnake03 May 08, 2005 11:27 AM

i bet he feeds them out of their cage or he is really stupid because they would fight over their food and possible fight to death
