I think it depends on the snake. Racks are much easier to keep at the proper temps and humidity which is essential for metabolising of food. But really I think snakes are pretty much either garbage disposals, good eaters, fussy eaters or problem eaters, regardless of what they are kept in. I have a garbage disposal snake that is in a huge tank and I have fussy eaters in my racks.

When I first go into Ball Pythons I picked up a group of 12 females and kept them in glass cages til my racks arrived. Only 1 ate. The day the racks came 7 more ate. I believe they feel more secure in the rack setups especially with a hide in the container.

.....caging/environment;temp;humidity;food offered;time of year;etc...IMHO I think this'll vary among keepers...the one big difference is that it's generally easier to open a tub in a rack and be less disturbing when offering food...sjm
Personally I have Ball Pythons in racks only and some of them eat very well, some of them are finicky eaters, and two of them have not eaten since October 2004. Conditions are the same for all of them, yet some of them eat really well and others don't.
Just like no two people are the same, no two Ball Pythons are the same.
