all things gone bad...

lucyleo Jul 11, 2003 03:56 PM

With medications and a balanced diet my recovering cow seemed to be regaining her seight and her weight, but about a week ago her eyes started to pull shut and her weight seemed to not be improving. She now weighs 28 g. But she has lost about 5 grams since the last days. The reason is because she is vomiting everytime i feed her. I feed her adequate food for her but her stomach seems to not take it. I've tried all kinds of bug slushies, bugs w ensure, vitamins, caterpillars, watered down food, waxies, small amounts of cat food, supers. But her tummy seems to regurgetate all that i feed her...... Please give me advice......im worried!!

I've never heard of feeding leos cat food or actual caterpillars (I don't know if those foods are okay for them?) Have you tried feeding her very small amounts of food at a time? Even if she is eager, don't feed her a syringe full of bug slurry at once, her digestive system might be in overload after not doing so well (she doesn't need to be sickly full). Try offering her a small amount of the slurry and then coming back an hour or two later and giving her a little more. Sorry I couldn't help more...keep us posted and Good Luck!!!

Except for: Don't give up! Call the vet and tell him/her what's up. Maybe s/he will know what to do. Good luck!

try a small amount of yogurt, leos are lactose intolerant so no other milk products just plain yogurt. I don't know if it will help but in your case but sure can't hurt if she keeps it down try some more. Yogurt contains benificial bacteria for her digestive system that she may have lost from regurgitation or the use of medication. If she does good on that try some natural fruit baby food. You will have to gradually build her system back up to eating large amounts if she has been sick for some time
