Strange colored RES

iturnrocks May 07, 2005 12:47 AM

Caught this RES today while fishing in Linn County, Kansas. I have never seen them with orange on the bottom. Is this strange or just a natural color phase? Visions of interbreeding painted turtles and RES crossed my mind. We saw painted turtles, RES, and common snapping turtles in the pond.

Weirdness! But pretty cool looking. You folks got any nuclear plants by that fishing hole? :-P

Someone on turtleforum.com recently posted pictures of painted turtles that had the rust color as well, and it seems that the water just had a lot of minerals in it. The older turtles had more of the rust color than the young ones.

Cancel this post. The orange is something topical, it comes off.
