question about albinos and genetics

manakawari May 07, 2005 09:05 AM

hello everyone.i have a question.how is it that there are so many color variations in say,a ball python, and not many in other python species, like green trees.im not talking about high blue, high yellow, ect.im talking about the crazy color patterns.like half the snake is completely white, and the other half is regular patterned.or petterns like this.i understand what makes a snake white(albino, leucistic) but i always thought it was an all or nothing kinda thing.you are either albino or not.are these ball pythons that i am talking about only albino on the first half of their body?? are we not seeing patterns like this in chondros because up untill now,we havnt had an albino to play around with?if the albino breeds successfully, will we see morphs like this in the future?or will we need a leucistic animal for this?im asking because in say, burmise pythons, they have been breeding albinos for some time, and i have never seen a half white, half regular patterned burmise.so im assuming that there is more than just an albino defect that is causing this. id love to see gree trees have this morph.imagine a half white / half blue snake.as if chondros where not nice enough looking.

An albino ball is white and yellow, the snake I think you are thinking of is a piebald which has patches of or a percentage of his body that is white and the rest of his body is "normal". An all white ball is a lucy. All of these are different gene morphs. Hope this helps.
