Cheaper UVB? From: Musk Turtle Forum

im at homedepot buying a timer for my tanke when i see GROW LIGHTS for the plants. can i use these 8$ bulbs as a subsitute for my 30$ UVB Bulbs?

No. The grow lights do not have the UVB output of Reptisun 5.0.

I am somewhat interested in this thread, It is agreeable that they don’t have the output of the reptile bulbs but I am fairly sure they are better than nothing at all right? I personally opt for natural sunlight but this is a very time consuming job to offer all my herp natural light and its something that has to be constantly monitored. I personally don’t have any turtles and the only individual I ever did have was a RES at a young and immature age and I ended up giving it away when I could not care for it properly. Anyway as stated I may be wrong but they would be better than nothing at all correct?

For UVB output (indoors), the mercury vapor bulbs are the best, but Reptisun 5.0 is not bad. I'll pull out my comparision chart later.
