how hard is it, and how bad is it to try it, and how do you do-it and whats the worse could happen if you try it
I have found it very hard to find info on them. I did talk to some one who has done it a few times. A few of the things he said was. It MUST be female burm, male retic. even if they breed don't get your hopes up, if/when you get the eggs most will not be any good, If any hatch Your luckly. Also and this is the reason I have not tried yet. He told me NOT to use a burm that I was attached to.He said a lot of times the retic will just kill the burm.As I love my big girl I could not risk her getting hurt.
When I ment him he was selling two that he had breed, They were 18 months old, one was o.k. with being handled but the other was a real hand full. They look great, in my mind one of the best looking pythons I'v ever seen.He sold his two through a wholesaler here for $4000.00 ea.Out of the 22 eggs she laid only three hatched, he sold the two and was going to back breed the third one.
Wish I could help more but like I said I have found it hard to get any info.
Anyone else know anything that could help?
Have a good day
ld you want to risk her being killed in the process. Certain morphs of Ball pythons will get you much more than four grand a snake at NO risk to either parent. Seems a waste of a perfectly good life to me, and pretty damned irresponsible as a breeder on your part. Same goes for the young. You can get anywhere from 20 to 60 or more eggs from either one of these and to only have two or three survive. What's wrong with this picture?!??? Again, using Balls as an example, you spend the money and a couple years breeding and you can wind up with young morphs that will net you from 2,500 to 40 or 50,000 per hatchling. AGAIN At NO risk to the parents OR the hatchlings. What you are wanting to do is purely irresponsible and, to me, a black mark on the world of herping in general. OK, 'nuff said

this pervious post of mine must have broken regs, some of it wasn't allowed, so I guess I'll try and behave myself in the future.

I always think its funny when someone is talking about burms and retics and someone else goes "Hey guys I have a ball python".....It's like telling a guy with a porshe to buy a pinto. I don't care if they are worth 50,000 bucks.
Once again I'm hearing about "The Money".NOT EVERY ONE WANTS TO MAKE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some people like to keep snakes just to keep them!! Me I would love to have a bateater, Would I sell any, yea sure as long as I have a pair for me.But that is NOT my motivation.
As to the risk, If I was O.K. with hurtting my burm, I would of tried it already.
You might want to let Bob Clark and NERD know how irresponsible and what a black mark they are, as I know they both have/are breeding bateaters.
Have a good day!
Wasn't about "I got a Ball Python." I got a pair, and their both 'normals' by the way. It was about killin' 50 or 60 other snakes to get the 2 or 3 you want, that sell for a mere 4 grand apiece. Just don't sit right with me.

Apt enough metaphor, but the dinky cars get better mileage than the stately gas guzzlers.

I was around when the pinto was being sold by Ford...if I recall, did'nt these cars with good gas mileage explode?...lol
Im my experience, anything that could possibly risk the lives of any of the animals at hand is not worth it. Unfortunately these things are typically discovered by trial and error. However, once it is noticed that it doesn't work out too well, then it is damn irresponsible of anyone to try it. Infertiles are common depending on the snake and they happen. Not much anyone can do about it. When you start endangering the health and life of even your breeders, thats when you are being a moron, and in the words of garfield, "need to be drug out in the street and shot!".
Isn't it retarded enough to be breeding two very different species together? I guess if there will always be a market for crap.
Let kingsnake delete this message, I don't care, I've vented.
Some people like hybrids, some don't.
I wouldn't call either one retarded, but thats just me.
Have a good day.
