water for my newt

Ryoko Jul 11, 2003 05:04 PM

ok Well my fire belly newt is in a 15 gallon with 2 fire belly toads. I need to know what tep to put the water. Right now it's about 72 I think. I need to know about feeding well I do feed it but it's frozzen fish food. I need to bye some more but the store only has some types of frozzen fish food and not the type I was gave. What other type should I get for him?

try chopping uo small meal worms into pieces and drop them in it will find them , also get some frozen blood worms deforost them in a saucer of water drop them in and it should give it a good healthy diet good luck.

ok thanks that helps but what about the temp of the water.

Um lets see since its around 72 thats a good temp in the winter months i would worry about it being 68-70 now 72 up to 78 shouldent be a problem.

FB newts can be very sensitive to temps. 72 should be fine. You don't really have to worry about the water getting too cold, only too warm, so don't put a heater in the tank. If the water gets too warm, the newt can develop a fungal infection and die, while at temps as low as 40 degrees all that will happen is that the newts will go into hibernation and their movements will slow down (might be tough to notice since they tend to move pretty seldomly anyway). i'm not sure what the ideal temp range is, because i'm out of town so i can't look anything up, but since it's very difficult to cool down the water and very dangerous to warm it up, i say: let it do it's thing.
