pithons May 08, 2005 01:28 AM

my 10' green shed about 2 months ago ( if that ). a week after that shed she ate 2 jumbo rats. the next week she ate 2 more jumbo rats. then a week after that her eyes turned cloudy and she left the water bowl to hid under the newspaper for about 3 weeks. (i tried to put her back into the water bucket after the first week but she retreated to hid under the newspaper.) on the 3rd week i put her into the bucket again where she stayed and that night she shed. i thought it was wierd how her eyes clouded after about 3 weeks and 2 feedings. it doesnt look like she grew durring the last 2 months - she wasnt fed much! but still went through a quick shed phase?

(food for thought.)

Well as far as my experience with my Anaconda sheds, my 8' Green sheds close to every 2 months, doesn't matter what you feed her, it's still in a 2 month interval and takes 2 weeks from her color darkening, clouded eyes, and then the final shed. But my 10' Green x Yellow Anaconda will sheds about every month and a half, maybe closer to a month depending on what you are feeding. From her color darkening, eyes clouded, and final shed, it usually only takes her a week to a week and a half to actually get the final shed off. But 3 weeks doesn't sound to be that quick, sometimes I'm sure it will only take a month. My baby Super Tiger Retic has shed once a month since I have had him, and it only takes 6-7 days for him to complete it, but I guess he is a baby and that doesn't compare to a huge Anaconda.
I can't believe your Anaconda ate jumbo rats! It looks big enough to take on 3-4 lbs Rabbits or maybe even more! But I wish I had her so bad to breed to my male next year or the year after!!!!! It's not everyday you see a huge tame Female Green. But good luck, you should take more pics also Your female is really really beautiful!

sounds like our anaconda's are similar in shedding times. i just thought it was really fast to be going through a shed phase after 2 meals and 3 weeks, but i guess its not that bad. i actually bought some 6-8lb rabbits i tried to feed her one last week but she didnt take it. it was the day she shed ( i think i tried to soon ) as the shedding was still in the water. so i cleaned the cage out and let her rest for a bit im gonna try to feed it again within the next few days , im gonna thaw it out with some rats to get the sent on the rabbit. hopefully she will take it she is in need of a few big meals.
thanks for the response Ben, ill try to get more pics soon!
