Best brand of ceramic heat emitters?

ea7770 May 08, 2005 08:59 AM

In the process of building a large tegu enclosure and thinking that I'll go with a 250 watt ceramic heat emitter for the basking area as A) it's a large enclosure and B)tegus need pretty high temp basking spots. But there's quite a few brands out there (and shapes). So, I thought I'd ask and see what others personal experiences have been.
TIA

I have 2 of the ESU reptile heat emitters and they run hot. In other words they work great and not 1 tiny bit of light just pure HEAT.
Both are 60 watts but no comparrison to a 60 watt incandescent bulb thats not heat compared to this.
I have had them for months and work as well as they did from day one.

I couldnt figure out how to edit my post so have to do this one to. If you need light for basking area than heat emitters are no good they dont give off any. They are for just heat no light.
I think tegus need special uv light or light period but if its for just night heat than they work great.

I have plenty of UV lighting. I just need something to help raise the ambient air temp as well as provide a high temp basking spot. It's a very large cage. I've used ceramic emitters years ago when they first came out. But that was a long time ago. And now with so many different brands on the market that all claim to be the best, I'm just looking to see what other people's experiences have been with the various brands and shapes (conical vs. flat etc). Thanks for the info.

I have two of the Big Apple Herp 250wt heat emitters and they work great. I have never used any other brand to compare them to though. They were about $45 each and are pretty heavy due to the extra insulation. Check them out www.bigappleherp.com!In use for over a year and work like new.

Gotcha. My ESU is cone shaped. Its very strong . Thats the only type I have experience with since liked it never used others.

I have had the same 60 watt Pearlco in use off and on for the last 12 years. For that reason alone I'd be hard pressed to choose another brand. But I've never tried the other brands to be fair.

Also, just to clarify things a bit, these do produce light, it's just the infared variety. So the previous poster was right and wrong. They do produce light, they just don't produce any visible light. Thought I'd point that out just in case you read some of the more technical information on CHE's.

Like I say, I tried 'em years ago when they first came out. And I believe that it was pearlco that introduced them back then (or at least popularized them). Sounds like they're still popular. I just didn't want to assume that that's still the best brand to go with. Certainly would still like to hear of anyone's experiences with anything different (or more pro-pearlco experiences too).
Thanks again to everyone.

I like the Perlco sold at www.Beanfarm.com.
