The creamie thread

kap10cavy May 08, 2005 10:26 AM

Ok guys, my turn. The original thread could have been a good one. We could have discussed the pros and cons of the cream in question. I don't know Frank, Bob, Rich, Robyn or anyone else that was mentioned or involved. Like Frank likes to say, you people are just words on my computer.
I don't play favorites, I am not here to make friends, I come here to learn and make things better for my lizards, that is my concern. I could care less if someones feeling are hurt.
Now to the cream. I can see where someone would use it as a subsutute for proper husbandry. I can also undertsand using it for a newly arrived reptile that can delivered in less than the advertized condition. I doubt I would ever buy it, but I do see the logic with the cream.
Just my thoughs on the subject.

Hi Scott,

In the end, that thread was just an attack on someone's friend, it had nothing to do with monitors. It also was clearly a violation of the TOS. So it really had no chance of surviving.

That being said, I don't really see any correlation between shedding and dehydration. Why people who supposedly have so much experience can't see this is beyond me. The cream is to help shedding not dehydration. I probably wouldn't use it, because I don't care much if my monitors have bad sheds here and there. Interestingly enough I see more shed problems in high humidity than low humidity, and soaking only aggravates those problems.

your absolutely right. It took me awhile to figure out what you said. But I did.

Dehydration, is cronic and causes lots of problems. One could be stuck sheds, but its only one of many symtoms. Tail tip problems, toe problems, kidney problems, leg and arm swelling is another symtom. As well as stuck sheds.

I totally agree that too much moisture causes the skin to thicken and does not shed well.

Shedding and skin problems are caused by lots of other events. Many of which we do not fully understand.

Thanks for making me think, FR

Sorry, didn't mean to make you think. hahahaha

I was trying to be concise, but yes that is what I meant.

The only real problem with shedding iv seen, are when old shed constrict digits or tip of tail, this leading to necropsies and loss. As I mentioned before this is more a problem with babies as they have thin tiny weebi little digits. In this case I see a use for the cream.
Maybe for newly imports, I don’t think I need this product because I have substitutes.
However when an experienced keeper cares enough for animals to makes such a product available to all, we should at the very least try to understand the motivations involved.
