hiya, im in need of some help, my boyfriend has jus got a salamander that has a speckled red belly..... although he has gone away and left me in charge of it and i dont no anything about how 2 look after it, tank size, habitat etc etc. dont really even no what breed it is, its quite small, bout 3 inches, black with red speckled belly. also, if i was 2 get him another salamander which ones would go best with it

any help is much appreciated

Sounds like a chinese firebelly newt to me. Put it in a ten gallon with 6 inches of COLD dechlorinated water with a land area to come out onto, and you can feed it things like frozen bloodworms, live daphnia, tubifex worms, and blackworms. That's the very basic requirements. They also love plants, plastic or real.

Also, the only type of newt that can go with it is another firebelly of the same species. Mixing species can be a disaster.
