I'm worried about my boas mouth. Need advice

silenthill May 08, 2005 01:27 PM

I came home yesterday and it turned out she shed but it was not a clean one. A lot of skin was left over on her underside. I think this was becuase I only misted her from above. I took off the skin by soaking her in water and gently rubbing it off. It took me an hour and a half but I got it all off. The thing that worries me is that I noticed her mouth is sort of open in the corner. I'm scared that this is serious. Anybody know what it is? What should I do?

That's the only thing I could think of other than take it to the vet.

I agree maybe something stuck in its mouth or Possibly a infected tooth or mouth rot. I would take it to a vet.

Yeah I used substrate that has wood chips in it. So it possibly be one. How should I take it out?

start a new post on this forum asking how to open the mouth of a boa SAFELY. I'm sure it would be a two- person job (one to get the object out with tweezers.)

I made an appointment for the vet today, and an hour before it was time to go to the vet I checked on her and it was gone. So it was a wood chip and it fell out. She looks perfectly fine now. Plus I didn't have to spend $50.

either feeding outside the enclosure or changing substrate to paper (what I do.) No it's not as good looking, but safer for your wallet and your snake.

I always feed in seperate container. If it happens again I may change the substrate, but its the best stuff I've found thats easy to clean and looks good. My other boa has been on the stuff for over a year and there have been no problems.
