TORTOISE IN GARDEN

RyanDonnelly May 08, 2005 01:53 PM

i was wondering if it is safe to allow my tortoises to trample around in my garden and it will still be safe for me to eat my veggies im growing, my worry is about salmanila being passed through the soil into my veggies. Anyone know of any info please let me know. Thanks Ryan

It is possible for some of the toroise's feces to get on the vegies if they are growing very near to or on the ground, but if you wash them off, there should be no problem. As far as the plants picking up bacteria with their roots and it getting into the plant itself, that won't happen. Plants don't pick up bacteria from the soil, only nutrients.
