Lizard found clinging to side of swimming pool

vicki_ca May 08, 2005 04:41 PM

This unknown lizard was found clinging to the side of a swimming pool with its head above the water line. It seemed to be stuck there. Since the pool has a protruding edge or lip, I suspect it would have been awkward for it to climb out. It did not object to being removed from the pool. It's breathing was barely noticeable and it remained motionless where it was laid for a long time. I suspect it was cold.

Approximate length: 12-14 inches
Found: Clinging to side of pool, head above water
Location: Contra Costa COunty, California (25 miles east of San Francisco)

Unknown lizard

That's an alligator lizard, probably the San Francisco species (Elgaria coerulea).
