A Stupid Question

calbright May 08, 2005 08:08 PM

Iam new to the snack breeding bit and want some opinions on inbreeding. I have read of people breeding the offspring back to their sires and of people breeding siblings to siblings. I am not comfotable with either, and fear my offspring will be born toothless and searching for a trailer park instead of their hideboxes. Any opinons???

Just kidding. I would do a search on this forum. This has been discussed a number of times. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it. I know some do it and some don't. To date, I am not aware of any scientific studies on inbreeding and Ball Pythons.

Thx for your response... I'm not a gambler so I guess I will stick with the tried and true... that and I do not want a house full of retarded baby snakes that are prone to drowning themselves in their water bowls

I am actually going to agree with Jay on this one. Do it only if you feel comfortable with it and the risks. He's right, there are no studies on Balls and inbreeding, but you can view the whole industry as a study on it. In the next twenty years, I'm sure there will be more of a consensus on this topic as people either find lots of problems or don't.
