More Advice, please

I have stopped feeding my new tegu cat food, and he is still eating his crickets. He is starting to shed, which means he is growing, so I am very glad about that. But the problem is, I have been offering him all kinds of fruits and veggies, and he is not interested in them at all. How can I get him to start eating them? I really love this guy, and I have been holding him much everyday. Still a little skittish, but getting better. Anything helps. Thanks a lot.

Lots of critters are scittish when they are small, because they are snacks for everything. With proper handling he'll calm down as he grows.

Mine used to eat straight fruit. He won't anymore. Now I chop up fruit and pack it into ground turkey balls. He loves ground turkey. Ground chicken would likely work too.

Good luck,

Brian

My tegu is also very picky about what fruits he eats and he won't touch vegetables. When I first got him he wouldn't eat fruit at all and it took awhile to find fruit that he would eat. He likes grapes, watermelon, and persimmons. If you are having trouble getting him to eat fruit at first that's pretty normal. Most tegus like raw eggs, so try drizzling some raw egg over the fruit. That worked good for me until I figured out what fruit he would eat without the egg.

Be aware that a large percentage of raw chicken eggs carry the salmonella virus. For some reason some people on here seem to believe that tegus are salmonella impervious, but it's just not true. Better safe than sorry.
