Does this look odd?

newticus May 08, 2005 10:43 PM

I just got this one today. I went into work and there was this full grown? crested, and it was olive!!. I'd been looking to get a green looking gecko since i've wanted cresteds. So for only $75, it's mine.
As i'm looking it over, i notice the hips look a little strange. Look at it's hips.

Can anyone tell me if it's MBD, or genetic or what. If it is MBD, is this correctable at all, and what would i need to do to fix it. It doesn't walk funny at all. It's nice and fat. It's the only area that seems affected. It's tail is a little stiff, with a minor bend, not even a kink. I don't know any of this gecko's history, it was traded to us for suplies i believe. I don't even know how old it is.

It appears to be female, but maybe one of you can tell me deffinately

It is 8 inches long, so i think it's full grown.
any help would be appreaciated

I didn't mean to offend you but every picture shows red on everthing unless your whole house is a weird pinkish.

it's a real tough call there with those pics, they're a bit fuzzy so its hard to really tell much. from what i can see, it looks as theres a lopsided growth to the base of the tail. if you can get some clearer pics, it might help. try taking a pic of your gecko with the flash on against a plain white background. that usually makes pics nice and sharp.

from what im guessing, it almost looks as though your gecko has a possible advanced case of floppy tail. is there a depression dorsally on your gecko where the tail meets the body? does the tail seem to just flop back over the rest of its body if it hangs upside down on glass? it's possible that your gecko (looks as though its at least a year old), has had floppy tail for a long time and the case has worsened, affecting the pelvic bones. that would be my guess. theres a pretty good pic of it in the rhacodactylus book in the "disease" section. floppy tail is not treatable, and i dont even know if there is anything to do if it has gone on to affect the pelvic girdle. you might wanna consider taking it to the vet to have an x-ray done. in the meanwhile, make sure she gets a decent calcium supplement to help strengthen her bones.

I'm no expert, but I've heard that dehydration causes cresteds tails to bend. Make sure she gets a lot of water.

Don't you think if she was gonna use photoshop to edit those pics.....she would've taken the red out & at least gotten them a bit more crisp? lmao.

oh, i'm not offended, i just didn't want ppl thinking i made the photo up. It looks funny, cause i took the pictures with my palm pilot. It has no flash and has very limited, well everything.
I've actually never seen any of my cresteds hang upside down on their glass. I also just got this gecko yesterday from my work and have no clue as to it's history. I didn't even see the person who traded her in to us.
What causes floppy tail?
I've never seen it before now.
