I think photos like these are appealing to herpers because they accurately depict herps in the field. We can all appreciate seeing an animal as it was found in situ. However, if you were asking about opinions from photography folks in general they would probably say it is difficult to get a good photo in lighting conditions that were present in your photos. The camera had to accomodate very bright areas of reflected sun along with dark shadows so several areas are underexposed while other areas are in harsh shadow. I've always felt getting exposure right was one the most challenge aspects of photography.
