New baby question, more

PoohBear03031 May 09, 2005 12:09 PM

hey, all. I recently got a blizzard as a birthday present. He is much samller than I remember my other babies being, and all he does is sleep. He ate well the first itme we fed him, but now I havn't seen him eat in a while. He is still pooping though, so I know he must be eating. My question is, is it normal for him to sleep as much as he is? He even keeps his eyes closed when he moves around. I have seen him with is eyes open, but he only keeps them open for a few seconds and then closes them again. Does that mean there is a problem? It might be nothing, but I tend to get mother hen syndrome when it comes to my babies. Any help, or input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds partly normal, I mean him sleeping alot. He is probably still settling in so give the little guy a chance. But walking around with eyes closed doesn't sound right! Maybe someone else can offer better advice.

Especially since the baby is so little i would get a fecal done. If there is anyting going on you really want to catch it early...babies go downhill quick when they get sick. Just bring a fresh (24 hours) poop sample to your vet.

Other than that, in case it is just adjustment make sure he is left alone, dont handle him or even stare at him a whole lot. make sure he is quite and calm and give him some time to settle. The part about keeping his eyes closed a lot though makes me worry, i would get a fecal done just in case...

good luck!

sounds like dehydration. Raise the humidity in the tank, and make sure he has a humid hide.
