bp always on cool side of tank...

rusti May 09, 2005 05:44 PM

as the title says, my bp wont leave her cool side. in her 20 gal. tank, the cool side is 80. warm side= 93. humid.= 55-60 I have never found her anywhere but the cool side. Sometimes, when I place her in her tank, she'll choose the warm side, but within 5-10 min, she moves to the cool side again. I have a UTH on the warm side that stays on the whole time. for day temps, a spot lamp. a guy at a reptile store said that this would work with bp's, but now I'm wondering. before I bought a spot lamp, I had a heat lamp. During this time, I would find her on the warm side sometimes as well as cool side. The temps with the heat lamp were: warm side= 93, cool side= 80... same as it is now.

Any advice would be helpful.

Try lowering the temps on the warm side a tad. Is your UTH on a rheostat? It may be getting too warm for her. I know some people have their temps up past 90 but I keep mine between 88 and 90. I've found that when the temps in the cage are around there the temp in the hides on the warm side of my tank are up near 96-98 degrees or above I can't imagine what they would be like at 93 degrees. And since that's were they normally are at that is where I'm most concerned about. But make sure you have hides in both sides (I've also found that my pair prefer a specific hide and will follow one particular one around the tank where ever I put it). She'll go where she feels most comfortable, so provide comfort at both ends. Hope this helps.
