female is ready to lay eggs

sledge May 09, 2005 08:18 PM

but it seems she might be having trouble she has not eaten and is laying up against the cage wall tonight. anytime i try to interact with her she takes off like lightning. it has been 24 days since her last clutch. she has a moistened area in the cage and has previously laid before, is there anything to do to help encourage her or are there any signs of stress i should look for? i did not witnes her last egg laying it happened very fast so i do not know the routine she goes through if there is such a thing.

please tell me some of your past experiences.

24 days since her last clutch or since she turned gravid? they do kind of have a little routine. my guys usually stop eating because they have no room, like they look at the cricket and think, it would be nice but it won't fit! then they start digging. ivan likes to fake me out and go underground for no reason like one or two times. also when my girls are pregnant, they tend to stay up later, even if it is way past sunset and they have sleepy eyes. hopefully she is just getting herself prepared. i would give her a couple damp areas so she can choose, if it is too close to her last laying spot perhaps she thinks she might hurt the other eggs

the four that started to hatch last week died bringing up my grand total of lost eggs from last year and this year to 29. they started to hatch and then just stopped. i opened three out of four and they all had perfect little babies in them. the same thing happened last year with milly's one egg that made it to hatching day. i don't know what i am doing wrong but i still have gertie's three eggs in there and gertie is gravid again and ivan is getting ready to be gravid again, so i just have to keep trying. gertie's eggs should be hatching any day now and i want one for my birthday on may 15th, so these ones had better hatch

I can't imagine that you are doing anything wrong. I have my fingers crossed for your birthday eggs. And huggggs, I'm so sorry, that must have been so disappointing.
