Hi,
I recently recieved a pair of you cb henkeli. They are 4 months old about 3.5-4 inches. I was wondering if i put the pair in a 29 gal. tank if that would be ok, or should i keep them seperate and raise them up in smaller tanks. let me know what you all think. thanks a bunch

I don't see any reason to seperate them especially if their cb.

Ok, I would separate them. The male will reach sexual maturity before the female and might breed her causing her strees at a younger age and if she does produce eggs to young it can shorten her life span and can make her egg bound if she isn't developed enough to lay eggs.

I wait until my female Henkeli are over 50-55 grams. Males can and will breed around 30-40 grams, possibly younger.

Hope that helps! Erik

Oh wait, By pair did you mean one male and one female or both females or what?? If they are male and female go by what I previously posted, If they are both females they can be housed together!! If you dont know the sex yet I would house them together but watch out for aggression or one growing bulges!! Erik

i dunno about henkeli, but ive kept male clutchmates of phantasticus together even past sexual maturation with no problems (cept rex who died recently of a developmental problem and resulting hemipenal prolapse, not at all associated with his cagemates).

i second erik's thoughts though, in the case they mature and you have opposite sexes.

Ok thanks for the advice, but is a 29 gal tank to big for them right now or is that ok.

I wouldn't house 1 juvie in a 29 gallon cage. I use medium-to-large(sometimes I even use extra-large) "KritterKeepers" for my juvies depending on there size. I also like to keep them separate just so I know that they are eating and not having to fight for food.

Do you know the sex of them yet??? Male, Female, or not sure? Erik

Its a male and female Pair, so i should take them out of the 29 gal and put them in like 10 gal. and seperate them. would it stress them alot if i did that, moving them from bigger to smaller
