Any thoughts on what if anything this is?

anthony james mc May 10, 2005 12:20 AM

I'm refering to the light female in this pic, she is gravid and about 20 days away from laying. She reminds me of a morph that is already proven out to be co-dom. I was just wondering if some of you see the same possibilities as I do in her,and she's not a YB that's for sure. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles.

Exactly what I am wondering! If she hatches out enough babies then maybe I'll know , since Fires are Codom it would be easy to tell. She was bred to a het pied male , I wanted to bred a YB to her but didn't know if she'd go so I didn't want to waste my Yb on a female that wasn't going to produce a nice clutch. Time will tell, maybe she's just a Het pied , which is what I bought her as , a Poss Het that is from 00. It would be cool if she was something more than that , that would be insane luck though so I doubt that is the case , but either way she is worth holding onto and will make some nice babies I think. Do you have any information on her het pied (father?)?

I've got a really bright 50% chance het pied male that is from Peter Kahl out of a female (if my sister didn't mix the record cards) named "Spot". He threw a couple really bright daughters (unfortunately they didn't get the belly mark from him also). I went ahead and hung onto them even though they don't have the het pied belly just because I wanted to see if there is anything to the bright color.

Randy I actually never seen the parents, so I have no idea why she is this color, and her head markings are almost IDENTICAL to the really nice Fires I've seen pics of , that and the fact that she has alot of nice washed out blushing on the sides and a patterless belly with marks similiar to a het pied but much lighter in intensity (refering the the outlining marks , most het pieds have a dark defined outlining pattern but this one is more of a dusty grey color and not dark pigment at all, as well as more "broken" up or shatter pattern like without creaping into the belly at all , more like what you'd expect to see on the belly if you bred a YB to a marker het pied, that's not what happened but that gives you an idea of what I mean) so I don't know what's going on.. As for your poss hets, I have a het pied that once was a poss het that looks NOTHING like a marker so don't let that belly thing worry you, not all hets are like that! If I get good eggs to hatch I'll let you know what they look like, if they look like her then I may have something cool, or if she does produce pieds then that is cool as well, or maybe she's just a nice light normal that needs bred to a Yb or a Mojave next season.. I've not seen the parents of mine either so I'm just guessing the bright 50% het male might have been picked up from the normal mother "Spot". I take it you don't have any documentation on the parents of yours (i.e. a breeders notation of names)?

I actually didn't notice much difference as babies when I sent the unmarked 25% hets to my sister to raise but when she brought them back at about 1.5 years old the two that where granddaughters of "Spot" really stood out from the other two unrelated animals. Bummer I didn't get a girl like dad with both the belly marker and the bright color. I know the marker isn't 100% but I think it's worth something.

Agree, the belly markers are a bonus for sure. I won't mention the breeder I got her from this isn't the place for that in case she is something she wasn't supposed to be if you know what I mean. She was a 66% Het which is even more odd to me , another well known breeder has seen that pic and claims he has female het pieds that are that nice looking , maybe so but het pieds generally are not that stand out looking or that light either. My camera doesn't even come close to capturing her true color she is as light as a pair of kacky (however you spell that)pants , you know those really light colored slacks that are almost a cream color. We'll be able to tell more if she produces a good clutch.. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles.

Hi Anthony,

I don't claim these to be anything other than nice hc balls that pass on a bit of lateral striping and head fading. This male (upper right) was imported as a hatchling and cherry picked from a crate of imports. He is pictured with two of his daughters. They will hopefully breed next winter. Thanks for looking.
