incubator?

kkierstead May 10, 2005 10:52 AM

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap incubator setup? I house my male and female together and thought he was to young to breed. Well now my female is possbly gravid and if she is she just had her pre-lay shed yesterday. I was told she could be in a false gravid. She's showing all the signs of being gravid and I need to be ready soon if she lays some eggs.
Thanks Kim

Think about what you need to successfully incubate eggs....constant (stable), high temps (88-90) and high humidity. Any container that you can isulate or is already insulated, a heat source, and a thermostat. Not knowing what you have on hand...how about a plastic or styrofoam cooler (like for a picnic), heat tape, and a themrosat? Or maybe a rubbermade tub with styro insulation (from craft store or home depot).

If you only have one clutch you definitely can get away with a Hovabator. They sell the for $40 at LLL Reptile. ---www.lllreptile.com --- Also buy a cheap Alife thermostat as a backup (set at 91) and you should be allright. That is what I am having to do with a few clutches til my Natures Spirit incubator comes in today. I cant wait!! Good luck!
