I was thinking about getting a tomato frog. When I see pictures of them they are always bright red. I have seen some at the pet stores but they are a light brown color. I like the red ones better. Why are they 2 different colors?

The color depends upon the species and the health of the frog. The darkest brownish are usually D insularis. D. gueneti are more colorfull, being orangeish to a nice reddish. D antongilli are the most intense red, but hardly ever avial. I have a few hybrid guenetti x antongilli still avialable. Contact me at Mercedesherp@hotmail.com Hank
Hrmmm ive always wondered about the antongilli hybrids in captivity, as pure bred antongilli are highly illegal as I remember. Also different colors come from different clutches within species. Orange/Red/Yellow can come from 1 pair of adults. Below are all the same species just variation.
What are the pure bred antongilli illegal?
I don't know much about this type of frog.
The pure bred's are on CITIES Appendix 1, wich would make them illegal to own/trade. Wich brings me to the question on how hybrids came to be (would mean someone is crossing their pure bred with a different species, wich would be illegal unless it was a zoo). If I were you I would just get some nice red D. guineti. They are easy to care for and dont require much for habitat. Below are some of the more red D. guineti, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Got anymore pictures of your tank? Im thinking about getting some but want to plan a good tank for them out before i get close to buying any. Thanks, Also i heard a rumour that if you feed crickets carrots the color improves on tomato frogs, is that true.
thanks
