Can i use organic top soil for my savannah monitors substrate?
I bought top soil from lowes home improvement warehouse which was recycled tree bark and tried it. It stinks, its full of little flying bugs that hatch everywhere, its acidic Very, it stains their skin for several soakings, they dont like the stuff and mine wouldnt dig in it. Its got whatever type of tree bark they can find in it. Organic is something else yet, its the same soil with manure added. Find a creekbed or riverbed and a wooded area, then use real dirt its also cheaper but you have to strain it.
I use Lowe's top soil. My argus digs tunnels in it which hold until she makes new ones somewhere else. My timors have a tunnel system in it and it has supported grass and plants. My salvators lay eggs in it. I don't seem to have too many bug problems with it. I don't know which type it is, but it is in a blue and white bag. I'll look tomorrow.
