cage floor idea

Carlton May 10, 2005 05:24 PM

Hi all,

Ah the elusive perfect floor for a cham cage! I came across this idea while searching for stuff for my dog.

I've often thought a dog crate pan would work as a bottom for a cham cage as they are large, flat, waterproof, have a low lip around the edge to contain drip water, and you could drill a hole for drainage pretty easily. But, how to get the pan without buying the crate? Well, I finally found a website that sells replacement plans for crates in a lot of sizes. In case anyone is interested, here's the site. Look for Midwest Crates. You could probably order a pan through a dog/pet supply locally too.

That is a really good idea! I have been using plastic storage containers lined with puppy housebreaking pads but the storage containers don't come in a good variety of sizes. I always end up using 2 that don't fit too well. I'm going to have to check that out. Thanks Carlton!

All my cages are too big to use the sweater box ideas. My smallest cage is 48"x30"x36". I did find some use for those hydroponics "flood tables" that worked very well. They are often larger sized and are sturdy enough to support heavy pots. But, shipping 48"x36" ABS plastic flood tables from the rare hydroponics supply places was expensive. These crate pans are not very expensive if you can get a local pet supply to order one for you. Just say your dog chewed your original one up! See, dogs have their uses.

Cement mixing tubs from your local home improvement store. Hold lots of water if need be, can be set up with a drain if need be. So 5 years ago....
