CLEANING CAGES

hundo188 May 10, 2005 08:01 PM

Just wondering how often everyone cleans the cages? ie wipe the side of the glass and remove waste on the bottom.
then how often everyone does a complete breakdown of the cages?ie take everything out and clean all the cork and branches and how does everyone do it. for example do you take the cages out side or just in the rep room.
thanks i was just thinking about this today as i was breaking down my cages. someone always has an easier idea or a more effective way thanks.

i wipe down the cages monthly, and make complete changes of most of my tanks every 3 or 4 months, possibly longer if it does well and stays clean.

I have somewhat of an alternative to cage cleaning.. I dont.

We use isopods and other invertebrates that live in constant culture in the soil, therefore eliminating any kind of waste, both plant and animal. The glass gets wiped as needed, which isnt usually any more often than once a month - my animals arent glass dwellers, however.

The soil dwellers provide a food source for the geckos as well and as long as one is careful not to upset the balance (too hot, cold, wet, allowing fungus or any parasites)it maintains itself quite well.
