Seizures?

kirkpatrick May 10, 2005 10:52 PM

I purchased two baby cresties about a month ago, and they were about the same size. Now, one is 2x bigger than the other. One day, while the smaller one was sitting on the tip of my finger, he began twitching and fell, maybe four inches, and hit the bottom of his critter keeper. He kept convulsing and tucked his back legs in under his body. I thought he was dead, but after a minute he began jerkily moving and regained mobility. I thought he was fine and have avoided handeling him. However, today I had to pick him up to clean his cage. I put my finger in front of him and he started to climb on, but as soon as i lifted him off the ground he began convulsing again. His mouth opened and all of his limbs seized up. This time I really thought he was dead, but after another minute or two he began moving. it took him a good five minutes to fully gain mobility. Is there anything I can do for him? I dont want to take him to the vet because I think the stress of that in itself will do more harm than good. I also was curious if anyone knows what the cause could be? I thought maybe high incubation, but are there any other possibilites that I should be concerned with (diseases etc.). Thank you ahead of time for responses, and sorry for the long post.

calcium deficiency could cause this. recheck your calcium situation, and be sure to use calcium that includes vitamin d3, otherwise the calcium is essentially useless.

thanks alot. the crickets don't always get dusted and i didn't know they required d3. I really hope this works. thanks again
