What do you all think?

Karu Jul 11, 2003 08:10 PM

If you leo was going to die of Crypto and it was just suffering, do you think there is a difference between shooting your leo in the head and getting a vet to put it down. Shooting it will kill it painlessly and instantly. I don't see why people think that this is so wrong. Is there a difference between killing your leo yourself and getting a vet to do it? I mean, if both ways are totally painless.

I'd rather do it myself.

hahahaha, shooting it in the head!? if you wanna do it yourself, put it in a plastic bag with no holes, and put some car exhaust in the bag. make sure you don't breath too much in, it's Carbon Minoxide, very poisoness. it'll put him to sleep painlessly.

your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it, and you'll ask yourself, "where is my mind"

Shooting it in the head!? Now why on earth would you do that? If you really want to do it yourself, take iluvblackfrancis' suggestion, but dont shoot it in the head. If I were you, I'd take it to the vet to be put down, I think most vets do it for free. mac

The main big problems with shooting it in the head is, first if you do it wrong it can be very painful, second leos are so small they would kind of brust with being shot :-s. With ethunasia you cant do it wrong and its very effective and painless, what it is actually an overdoes of the agent they use to put animals under for surgery, with an overdoes it put it too sleep and then stops its heart.

Actually, the Euthanasia drug is only used for euthanasia. Many vets will put an animal under or sedate them using an anesthetic before euthanizing them. This question isn't that off the wall, except for the method, as I've read online that others prefer to euthanize their animals, even if they're not suffering. Some reptile breeders 'cull' their animals by euthanizing.

However, if you care about your animal, probably the most humane way would be to take it to the vet, because they should be able to do it painlessly or with as little pain to the gecko as possible.

Good luck.

Remember that a lizard's brain is VERY small, so shooting it in the head is a bit of a risk. I don't personally see any difference between dispatching it humanely yourself and having a vet do it, though. You could also get a C02 cartridge and use the same method used to euthanize rats and mice humanely for feeding herps.
