SOS!! My Turtle Had an Accident!

petritheturtle May 11, 2005 10:20 AM

I've had my RES for three years and always used the same tank and outdoor setup, but today she escaped! Thankfully I found her, but she has two small chips in her shell on the underside. They are not real deep and they are not bleeding, but they are red and tender looking. There are no vets in the area that treat turtles, what should i do! Please help!

You can put some neosporin on the injured spots and keep her out of the water for awhile. Also, be sure to keep the tank clean, clean clean to avoid infection

Laurie had it right, every time! Clean, clean, clean is essential

Depending on the injury this may be all that is necessary. Without a proper examination however it is impossible to give exact advice. Don't give up on finding a reptile vet (for this or future problems); they are out there, you just have to find them. Try www.arav.com, herpvetconnect, and also call your local vets to ask who they refer reptile patients too.
