My mom says I can't come out today......

despite the coll mid 50's temps I can still find 20 plus cerbs out each day. Thsi little guy was surprisingly dark for his young age of 18-20 months (approx 12 inches in length) Not many in my area become truly black in color but I think this little guy will be when he grows up.

sorry for the huge pics. The camera takes the pis at 3264 X 2448 pixels, so much detail gets lost when I reduce them I thought I would try a little bit bigger file (1200X 700) than I had been using. Looks like I need to shoot for a middle gound.

Rich, I personally like the BIG shots as it shows an incredible amount of detail....man, those are ultra cool shots! I'd like to talk to you about possibly using some of your pics for our new rattlesnake exhibit (I will contact you directly). Thanks,

Hope all is well on your end. Wish I lived closer so I could come see the new exhibit. I will definately make it a priority next time im in that part of the country.

Thanks much for the kind words! Absolutely! just let me know what you want to use or if there are any particular forms in this neck of the woods you would like me to get pics of.(Gotta start a whole new photo library with the new camera anyway, lol)

Cheers,

Rich

I dont mind the large shots...brings out more of the detail..but if you are concerned about size for psoting..you can open the picture in paint and jsut go to "stretch/skew" and you can shrink the image down by a precentage...I usually stick with 50 and 75 percent..what the opercentage is..is if you do 25 percent..it will shrinkt he image to 25% its original size..so that would make it really small...so using 75 and 50 moves it in fairly small increments.

but either way..beautiful shots

Rich, those are nice shots! what a pretty little bunch, I have an Oreganus den that Ive been watching for about 15 years now, I love having a spot to go where you can just sit and watch the locals while you eat lunch.
Cheers
Brett

Yeah, densites are awesome. It's great knowing that you can head to them each spring and fall and know there are snakes just waiting to have their picture taken! I can easily spend the whole season just wandering one site, figuring out who is who, who's expecting, whos fuedin' etc. Just like a little ophidian soap opera

Somewhere in greek mythology or mebbe its in that other big book of mythology... there was this large black dog that guarded the entrance to hell...named Cerebrus; what a gr8t tale & your shot perfectly demonstrates its probably true!
Looks to me like that infrared-seeking pit has a lock on you...b-careful youngman...hell aint half full
This is about as close as I wanna get...

Hey RR!,

Last year I got down into a push-up position to look into a crack and saw three black heads lined up very nicely. Cerberus the Three Headed Hound of Hell was already going through my head as the caption for the photo. As I started to go for my camera I suddenly realized that a three foot male cerb was laying coiled in the grass only four inches below my chest. Needless to say I jusped a bit and by the time I looked back into the crack (from a slightly different angle, lol)one of the heads had retreated leaving only two. I'm always on teh lookout for that three headed pic but haven't found it again yet. I thought this little guy looked like a kid staring out the window wishing he could go out. He was aware of me but very relaxed. I had my lense about three inches from his face. Thsi bigger camera is nice because I can keep my distance from larger and more agitated snakes. With my little 2.1 mp camera I always had to get withing six inches of their face for good pics. Needless to say anything over three feet was usually a poor quality pic.
