I got my baby BT from Pro Exotics today!

Tann May 11, 2005 12:41 PM

He came out tali whipping and hissing, lol. Clawed my hand up pretty good, but he was in good shape. Fed him some shrimp and he ate them right up and roamed around his cage looking around. He's alot more active and curious than Critter was.

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks to Robyn and I'll try and get some pics of the lil guy up soon.

As promised, i present to you....*drum roll* APOLLO!

Congrats, Now buy a small freezer to keep all the food in.Hahaha
It is almost as purdy as Fluffy was when I first got him.
Now quit reading and feed the poor critter. He's hungry now, and always will be.

He already ate his fill earlier. I fed him some shrimp with Herpa-Cal dusted on. He's funny to watch eat cause he's real causious and then violently shakes his head when he attacks. I left some in there just in case he got hungry again, but he never touched them so I took them out and refroze them.

I'll get him some crickets tomorrow and try to judge what size mice he can gulp down. I still have 50 F/T mice left from Critter, but I'm pretty sure their to big for Apollo.

Don't bet on it, Fluffy had no problem downing adult mice at 18 inches. As a matter of fact, he ate 8 in one sitting.

Well.....guess I'll thaw one out tomorrow and see if the little guy can tackle it. Actually, i could just cut it up if it's to big, no need letting them go to waste. And I can diffently tell the difference between a Sav and BT, WC and CB. He's not jumpy when I move around, he's very active and very curious about me and his surroundings, and he's a pretty good digger.

But what he's best at doing is making his fresh, clean water look like a bowl of oil.....

He was royally pissed off when he popped out of that box and burlap sac, lol. You would've thought he was 7 ft and 50 lbs by the show he put on. Of corse i'd be mad to if I'd been shipped in a cramped box overnight in a sac.

That's a nice looking monitor. I considered buying one a month or so ago, but decided to be practical and got an ackie instead. The one I handled clawed me up pretty good too. It's funny, b/c when I was in college I always told myself I'd get a water or blackthroat when I graduated and started making some jack. Now that I'm all finished and working I tell myself that I'm going to get one when I retire and can dedicate more time. I think I've averted potential maiming and being eaten out of house and home for 20 years, anyway. Good luck getting his grub on.

Top quality, absolutely no question, and healthy, not a skinny, dehydrated sick one at all. Sounds like it was scared right out of the bag. When they sent me Sobek she climbed out nice and warm and calm, climbed around very curious and friendly creature from the start.
The blackthroats Pro exotics sell except when they hatch CBB babies themselves or buy them from a breeder now are all imports, but they have a great start and someone who knows how to get them started off right and getting used to people.
At 16 inches total Sobek was eating adult mice, 1-2 a day, 50 to 60 or more crickets a day, many discoid roaches, and day old quails. I didnt bother with useless food that is for people, or dog food, or cat food, but tried some Zupreem monitor canned food, made no difference, and she lost interest in it after a few weeks. I fed her every day for her first year, they grow fast and put food down like it just disappeared.
This pic was taken 2 weeks after getting her, she had already grown 4 inches in that time. She was tiny, especially compared to now.

Actually, he kinda fell outta the bag and tried to run off so I grabbed him before he jumped off the couch. The UPS woman about had a heartattack cause she didn't know what it was, lol.

Apollo is almost exaclty the same size as Sobek in that picture. And I know all too well that they are bottomless pits and grow like a freakin weed. Even if he is an import, he still seems pretty relaxed and mellow. Like I said, he doesnt hide at the sight of me is very observative and inquistive.

Like I said they are in beautiful shape as well are used to people and on average are handleable. They send them to ya nice and chunky, thats one obvious difference over the majority of these businesses, in other words they are not afraid to feed them till they are full.
