My general rule is to not breed any of my females unless they are 1500 grams or more. I know some people will breed at 1200 grams but I would rather wait for them to gain the extra weight than risk the problems of a small female breeding. Also the female can be big enough to breed due to overfeeding but still to young to breed.
Thats what i wanna know is 1.5 yrs too young or should i wait till theyre older.....
In my opinion I say wait until the 06-07 breeding season to breed her. But if you feel she is ready its up to YOU.
...females are sexually mature at about the same time males are, they are just way too small. When your female gets to be about 3-4 feet long and 1500 grams, then she is big enough to deal with the added metabolic stress of being gravid and laying. If your female is not at least up to 800-900 gram range right now and growing fast she isn't going to be ready this year. Some females are ready at their second winter, but most aren't ready until their third winter. If you are worried about having problems, then wait. It can be pretty tough to wait a whole extra year though...
